An Increase in responsibility

When I read this, I stopped scrolling, saved it, and sat with it for a moment.

FOCUS

“Life rarely changes in a positive way without an increase in responsibility.”

Think about the primary pain points you might have (personally or professionally).  What’s it going to take to address it?  Whatever it is, the fix is not “out there”.  For a positive change to happen, there will need to be an increase in responsibility.

  • A leader who wants to influence and inspire their team.

  • A parent who wants more engagement with their teenager.

  • A spouse who wants deeper intimacy and connection.

  • The person who wants financial security.

  • The person who wants a deeper faith and spirituality.

Whatever the change is, it will involve deeper responsibility and wholeheartedness.  This is liberating news!  It means we can engage in the change we long for.  Living and working from a position of responsibility inspires others to do the same.  Personal responsibility leads to collective responsibility.

A side note…this is why I love leaders and their role.  They have the power to inspire and influence as they deepen their leadership responsibility and wholeheartedness.

I may or may not be writing this from a place of mid life wanderings.  In 5 years, I’ll be 50.  I’m now on the other side of aging.  So I’m making amends with the kind of life I have and the my heart longs for.  So this message of responsibility is hitting me deep in my heart.

REFLECTION

In my faith tradition, God asks us questions.  A primary question is,

“What do you want?”

This is a question of longing, wholehearted living, and responsibility.

It’s more than making money and hitting my goals.

It’s more than acquiring clarity and material possessions.

It’s more.

  • What change are you longing for?

  • Are you willing to shake off some of the fears and lethargy?

  • What new responsibilities are you being summoned to?
